A Day at the Racecourse

The annual visit of 5th classes to the Curragh Racecourse took place on Wed. last, April 13th. We had a fabulous day for the trip and it was a pleasure to spend the morning out in the fresh air and sunshine. We were given a talk by people from RACE and some of us got to try riding the simulator horse. We then went out on the course and heard about keeping the track in good condition. There was a boys’ and a girls’ race on the track, which were won by Dariusz and Patricia, who received prizes of T-shirts and caps. Next we visited the jockeys’ weighing room, where Ellie was decked out in style. Finally, we saw the farrier in action and Josh and Angel, who answered questions correctly, got to keep a horseshoe each. Lastly, on our way out, we saw a beautiful racehorse, Placere, trained by Richard Brabazon. Before leaving, we were given goodie bags, which included two free tickets to the Parish Race Meeting on May 2nd. It was a brilliant day out.
