Green Flag Ceremony

On Friday 16th June St. Conleth and Mary’s were proud to raise our seventh Green Flag for Global Awareness and Citizenship with a focus on Energy.

Our Green Team spoke about the work they have done in the school this year to promote a green lifestyle. We listened to poems from Lily O’Connor from Room 13 and from Aisling, Tara, Maya and Katie from Room 7. These poems had been written especially for our Green Flag celebration and were chosen as the winners of our poetry competitions. We enjoyed performances from the school choir, who sang ‘Heal the World’ and from Room 21 who performed an African dance. We also watched performances from students of the Curley Brennan School of Dance. Luke and Fionn Brennan, Sive and Dearbhla Armour, Katie Lincoln and Ellie Smith performed a jig while Aoibhe Mulraney,┬áMegan O’Rourke and Meabh and Grace Murphy performed a reel. Our MCs on the day were Daire Mulraney and Aoife MacMurchaidh.

Our Guest of Honour was Ger Ahern, Chairperson of Newbridge Tidy Towns. He told us about how the Liffey Linear Park is currently applying for its first green flag – so he knows how hard we’re all working!

Georgia Hyland, Chelsea English and Ger Ahern raised the Green Flag on behalf of the Green Team and the whole school.

We are really proud of all the children and the hard work they put into the ceremony and are especially proud of our Green Team for all their work over the year.

Green Team 2016/2017: Daire Mulraney, Angel Bayo Akinyemi, Georgia Hyland, Anna Lambert, Lucy Buckley, Rebecca Loftus, Alison Power, Sean Beatty, Chelsea English, Aoife MacMurchaidh and Toby Larkin.
